PROJECT BRIEF
Design a table or floor lamp as a limited-edition souvenir for NMACC's stage show, based on the story and stage experience, evoking a larger-than-life sense of delight.

PURPOSE
FRAGILITY
This project is an academic exploration of light as narrative — using form, material, and symbolism to build a myth around a fictional lost artist. through speculative design and visual storytelling, it examines how lighting objects can transcend function and become vessels of memory, myth, and mystery. the central artifact — a glowing lamp — becomes both a relic and a character,

STORY
The Prince of Egypt tells the story of Moses and Rameses, brothers torn apart by destiny.

Moses, once a carefree Egyptian prince, discovers his true heritage as a Hebrew and chooses to fight for his people's freedom.
Rameses, heir to the throne, struggles to uphold his father’s legacy and sees Moses’ defiance as a betrayal of their bond.

Moses’s hope was a quiet but relentless current, a belief that freedom was not granted by kings but born within every soul. Against this stood Rameses, whose fragile ego clung to the illusion of power, mistaking dominance for strength. His defiance was not rooted in conviction but in fear of being seen as less than the legacy he was forced to uphold. Yet fragile egos cannot withstand the weight of true vision — and in Moses’s unshaken faith, the hollowness of Rameses’s pride was revealed. What endures is not the brittle armor of ego, but the enduring force of hope that dares to free

FRAGILITY
From this narrative, we got inspired to embody the contrast between fragile ego and enduring hope through light. The warm, ambient glow reflects calm strength and introspection, while the soft diffusion symbolizes the delicacy of pride giving way to resilience. In its illumination, the lamp becomes a metaphor for liberation, revealing how true strength emerges not from control, but from the quiet persistence of faith and vision.

IDEATION
FRAGILITY
The lamp’s form draws from the interplay of rigidity and breakthrough. The layered, symmetrical panels echo the imposing order of Egyptian architecture — structures built to project power, tradition, and permanence. Yet through this rigidity emerges the central glowing core, cutting forward like a wave breaking through stone. This contrast embodies Rameses’s fragile ego, clinging to illusion, and Moses’s enduring hope, carving a path beyond it. The light’s gentle diffusion softens the severity of form, symbolizing how resilience and vision can dissolve false grandeur, revealing freedom at the heart of struggle

PROTOTYPING
FRAGILITY
The prototyping began with paper origami, exploring how folded surfaces could filter and guide light into dynamic structures. This experimentation revealed the potential of form as a medium for storytelling, where light itself became the central narrative. The process then moved toward cleaner geometries, emphasizing the smooth, continuous flow of illumination. Surface trials introduced frosted finishes, whose diffused glow resonated with the imagery of Moses leading his people through the parted sea — light breaking through waves of uncertainty. Finally, the exploration transitioned into 3D-printed components, refining the body into a tangible form that embodies both structural precision and symbolic depth.

BUILDING DIGITAL

MANUFACTURING
FRAGILITY
To translate these explorations into tangible forms, laser cutting was used to create layered frosted panels, capturing both texture and translucency. In parallel, injection molding techniques were explored to produce plastic components, ensuring durability and consistency while retaining the symbolic interplay between rigidity and fluidity in the final design.
